בָּנִים

Transliteration
banim
Meaning
sons — etymologically linked to abanim (stones) and bana (he built)

Hebrew word for "sons." Lapide explains the etymology: the Hebrews call sons *banim*, as if *abanim* ("stones"), from the root *bana* ("he built"), because families are built from sons as from stones. This is an example of catachresis (Canon 10).
