עוֹלָם
Hebrew word meaning "eternal" or "age." Lapide explains that *olam* does not signify absolute eternity but a hidden period of time whose limit and end is not perceived. It derives from the root *alam* (to hide or conceal). The old law is said to endure "forever" (*olam*) only relative to the Jewish commonwealth.
