Marriage and Procreation
The divine blessing "Increase and multiply" as God's approval and blessing of marriage, not a precept binding every individual. If there is any precept, it is given not to individual persons but to the whole species, lest the human species die out -- otherwise Christ would be the first violator. "Male and female He created them" -- not a hermaphrodite, but Adam as male and Eve as female.
Chapter I (The Six Days of Creation)
-
Verse 28: Increase and Multiply
— "Increase and multiply" is not a precept for each individual but a blessing on the species, granting the power and fecundity for procreation; otherwise Christ would be the first violator.
"if there is any precept here, it is given not to individual persons, but to the whole species, that is, to all mankind in common, lest they allow the human species to die out."
-
Verse 27: Male and Female He Created Them
— "Male and female He created them" — not a hermaphrodite, but Adam as male and Eve as female; said by anticipation.
"Scripture does not say "He created him" but "them," namely Adam and Eve -- that is, He created Adam as male and Eve as female."
-
Verse 31: And God Saw All Things That He Had Made, and They Were Very Good
— God did not say "it was good" of Adam alone before Eve's formation, lest He contradict "It is not good for man to be alone"; He preferred many whom He could save.
"For He preferred," he says, "that there be many whom He could save and to whom He could forgive sin, rather than one Adam alone who would be free from guilt."
