Mechlin

City in the Duchy of Brabant, part of the Spanish Netherlands. Seat of the Metropolitan Church and archdiocese, and location of the great Parliament (supreme court) of the Spanish Netherlands. The Society of Jesus established both a Novitiate and a College here. Van der Burch served as Dean of the Metropolitan Church and Vicar-General of the archdiocese. In 1572 and 1580, heretics seized the city.
