The Society of Jesus and its members' role in scholarship, pastoral ministry, and education. Lapide entered the Society on 8 July 1592; taught Sacred Scripture at Louvain and then Rome. The Society established both a Novitiate and a College in Mechlin. Van der Burch praised as "a friend of our Society."
